Your Questions, Answered

  • The Kids and Planet Project — TKAPP for short — is the work that Oceanbags Foundation does for kids. It runs on three legs: backpacks for children in crisis, books that teach generosity extended for kids at risk, and field trips with our nonprofit partners. Different shapes. Same conviction — young children are already capable of more than the world tends to ask of them, if someone bothers to ask. And we believe this untapped kindness extends into every age beyond.

  • Because the two belong on the same cover. Every Kids and Planet book carries a child's heart into the story of place — the community, the ecosystem, and the children thriving inside the struggle. Generosity is the thread that ties them all.

Shape the kid and honor the planet while you hold fast to a heart for both.Item description

  • Oceanbags Foundation is the nonprofit. It's the legal structure, the umbrella, the 501(c)(3). It exists to do mission-driven work and to make sure the work is built to last.

The Kids and Planet Project is one of the foundation's initiatives — specifically, the one focused on kids. Backpacks, books, field trips. All three live under the foundation; TKAPP is the brand name for the work aimed at children.

You may also see Oceanbags as the name of a small line of bags designed and sold by the foundation, made from ocean-bound plastic. Those bags help fund the work — for every purchase of a bag, a backpack is placed free-of-charge into a deprived child's hands, and the bags themselves keep more plastic out of the water.

One foundation. Multiple ways to engage. The same mission running through all of it.

  • • Give. Donations made directly to the Oceanbags Foundation are tax-deductible and go where they're needed most. Donations made through the QR code on the back of a KAP book route directly to that book's paired partner organization. Both routes work.

    • Buy a book. Reading a KAP book to a child supports the work twice — once in the proceeds, once in the conversation the book starts.

    • Partner. If you run a nonprofit, a school, or a library and our work seems like it could meet yours, drop us a note at info@oceanbags.com. We're a small team and we like real conversations.

    • Spread the word. If a book lands well, tell another parent. The mission travels at the speed of friends recommending things to each other.

  • The Oceanbags Foundation — a family-founded 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Austin, Texas. The foundation runs on a small team and a wide network of partners. We're closer to a kitchen-table operation than to a corporate one, and we like it that way.

  • We partner with trusted community organizations and NGOs who work directly with children in crisis—including those in foster care, refugee camps, and displacement situations. These partners ensure backpacks are delivered directly to the children who need them most.

  • Every OceanBag is crafted from certified Ocean Bound Plastics™—plastic waste collected from coastal communities before it reaches the ocean. Each backpack represents 26 recycled bottles that were prevented from polluting our oceans. Plus, a mangrove tree is planted for every product, helping absorb carbon and restore ecosystems.

  • Donors receive regular updates including stories, photos, and impact reports from the field. You'll see exactly where your gift goes and the children whose lives you've touched.

  • We work with trusted local nonprofits across the United States and internationally, including foster care agencies, refugee support organizations, and children's homes. Our partners include organizations like Casa de Amparo, Fostering Hope, Austin Blessings, and many more.

  • Yes! OceanBags Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Austin, Texas. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

  • OceanBags Foundation is an Austin-based nonprofit dedicated to connecting high-risk children with dignity and hope. We create environmentally friendly backpacks from ocean-bound plastics and donate them to displaced and vulnerable children through our network of nonprofit partners.

  • Our mission is to turn waste into dignity—transforming ocean-bound plastic into durable, high-quality backpacks for children who often carry their belongings in torn plastic bags. Every backpack represents both environmental action and a tangible gift of hope.

  • Ocean Bound Plastics™ (OBP) are plastics collected from land-based sources within 50km of coastlines before they can reach and pollute the oceans. Our certification comes from Zero Plastic Oceans in Paris, France. Each backpack prevents 20–40 plastic bottles from entering the ocean. Learn more at obpcert.org.

  • Our primary funding comes from product sales and donations. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of donors and partners to continue our mission.

  • We welcome partnerships with nonprofits aligned with our mission. Whether you serve foster children, refugees, or other vulnerable youth, we'd love to discuss backpack donations or collaboration opportunities. Contact us through our website to learn more.

  • Yes! We offer wholesale pricing and private-label opportunities for organizations looking to make a larger impact. Contact us to discuss options.

  • We measure our impact by: the number of backpacks donated, bottles diverted from oceans, partnerships established, and most importantly—the stories of children whose lives are touched by receiving a backpack of their own.

  • OceanBags Foundation is led by our Board of Directors and supported by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. An Advisory Board provides guidance across various fields to help us grow our impact.

  • OceanBags and The Kids and Planet Project are two sides of the same mission: caring for children and the planet they'll inherit. While OceanBags transforms ocean plastic waste into backpacks for displaced children, Kids and Planet nurtures the next generation of givers through children's books that celebrate generosity, compassion, and environmental stewardship. Together, we're helping kids today while inspiring the changemakers of tomorrow.
